An Information Portal with AI Built-in for Research Assistance.
Doug Madigan and Nir Karmi (TDNet)
TDNet, Inc. has been in the business of building library portals with built-in search and linking since 2001. In early 2024, TDNet became the first library vendor offering an in production fully functioning AI component to their library portal and discovery search. This presentation will cover what went into the development of our AI Suite, the tough decisions we have made, what feedback we have received from customers, what enhancements we have introduced, and what future development plans look like. Doug Madigan, Sales Manager and Nir Karmi, VP Business Development will present results of feedback of customers, development timelines, and further details on the ongoing development of AI in research, and a live demonstration of the TDNet AI Suite.
How to successfully partner with a portal vendor.
Diana Gowe (J&J) and Northern Light
In 2002, the first version of our CI portal, Signal, was rolled out. It was initially built using internal technology. Over the years Signal was forced to migrate to 3 different platforms, and it always seemed like we were trying to put a square peg in a round hole. In 2013, a business case was put together to look external for a platform that would enable us to not only house our internal content, but also pull in external content as well. We licensed in an external platform and have had a successful business partnership for the past 10 years!

Quality matters when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI). AI outcomes are strengthened by reliance on responsibly sourced copyrighted works. Large language models (LLMs) achieve optimal performance by incorporating high-caliber content from books, scholarly journals, news, and various online and specialized publications. This presentation will explore the critical intersection of AI and copyright, focusing on the importance of proper licensing to enable the legal use of copyrighted material for the training and operation of AI solutions. It will also highlight recent survey findings on how organizations are navigating the use of copyrighted content in AI systems.
